Creating a brighter future: How Isaac Abban and Atlas Converting support children with special needs in Ghana

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Jagenberg Group is more than a commitment—it is a core value which shapes the way we engage with communities and drive positive change. Within our group of companies, CSR takes many forms, from sustainable initiatives to social engagement. It follows the four strategic focus areas: environment, health, disaster relief, and education. One remarkable example of this commitment to the latter is the story of Isaac Abban, an engineering employee at Atlas Converting Equipment Ltd., and his inspiring efforts to support children with special needs in Ghana through the Caleb Abban Foundation.

A personal mission turned into a movement

Isaac Abban, born in Accra, Ghana, now resides in Milton Keynes, UK, where he works as Store Person at Atlas Converting Equipment Ltd. His journey to founding the Caleb Abban Foundation was deeply personal. His son, Caleb, was born with Down syndrome, and Isaac quickly realized the many challenges that come with raising a child with special needs. Even in a developed country like the UK, with access to healthcare and support systems, the journey has not been easy. “If I, in a developed country with all these resources, find it challenging, how much more difficult must it be for parents in Ghana who lack support from the government and must fund everything themselves?” Isaac reflects. After years of supporting Caleb’s school in the UK, Isaac decided to extend his charity to his country of birth.

Motivated by this realization, he founded the Caleb Abban Foundation to provide education, healthcare, and therapy resources to children with disabilities and underprivileged schools in Ghana. The foundation also works to raise awareness, challenge stigma, promote inclusivity, and support families and caregivers through training and emotional guidance.

Atlas Converting as a strong partner

As Isaac is a very collegial and communicative person, it didn't take long for Atlas to become aware of Isaac's charity work. The company immediately got involved and assured him support by any means. As part of its CSR efforts, Atlas donated computers, laptops, and other technical equipment to the foundation, helping to equip five schools with vital digital resources for teaching and learning. Atlas also reconditioned the computer equipment and took care of the export and shipping of the donations. This equipment was delivered by Isaac himself to five underprivileged schools in Ghana in the winter of 2024.

“Atlas has not only provided direct donations but also given me a platform to share my story and make the foundation more widely known,” Isaac says. “I am incredibly grateful for that.”

For Atlas, this kind of engagement is more than just corporate charity—it is about strengthening relationships with local and global communities. “As part of Jagenberg Group, it is a good platform for us to get out there even more globally, not just as a company to our customers, but as a company that cares about our environment and the people that work with us,” explains Joe Cross, executive PA to the management.
“Taking on social responsibility helps ensure long-term success, builds trust, and fosters new partnerships,” Isaac adds. By supporting initiatives like the Caleb Abban Foundation, Atlas not only contributes to meaningful change but also reinforces its own values as a socially responsible company.

Looking ahead: Still a long way to go

Isaac’s work does not stop here. The Caleb Abban Foundation aims to expand its reach, providing even more children with access to education and medical support. His vision is to create a more inclusive and supportive society for less privileged children in Ghana.

The employees of Atlas are all ready to support the foundation with further donations such as regular school equipment and a clothing drive.

Atlas has already played a key role in helping the foundation get started, and Isaac hopes for continued support in the future. “Together, we can empower a brighter future for these remarkable young individuals,” he says.

His story is a powerful reminder that CSR is not just about financial contributions—it is about people. It is about creating a culture where employees are supported in their efforts to make a difference. Through Isaac’s dedication and Atlas Converting’s commitment, lives in Ghana are being changed for the better, and the Jagenberg Group’s CSR philosophy is being brought to life in a deeply meaningful way.
