On May 19, 2025, Christoph Vrenegor, CE safety expert at Lebbing automation & drives GmbH, gave a guest lecture at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences in Bocholt. In his lecture, he explained the importance of machine safety in practice to students studying mechanical engineering with a focus on robotics.
The focus was on the responsibility that career starters bear in the field of mechanical and plant engineering. “Machine safety is not just gray theory - it means real responsibility. Anyone who does not comply with the legal requirements is liable to prosecution,” emphasized Mr. Vrenegor.
Using concrete examples and practical insights, he demonstrated the connections between legal framework conditions, risk assessment and functional safety. The focus was on conveying to the students how complex, but also exciting, these topics are - and that they play a decisive role in everyday working life at an early stage. “Many encounter these topics for the first time when starting their careers and we want them to remember Lebbing afterwards or perhaps even find their way as an employee to us,” says Mr. Vrenegor.
The lecture took place as part of a compulsory seminar. The students already brought theoretical knowledge with them, which led to a lively exchange that significantly reinforced the practical relevance. A special moment: William Al Akrad, who now works at Lebbing, was also present as a former student of this course and supported Christoph Vrenegor at the event.
“I really enjoy giving lectures like this. The students are very interested and it's nice to see how they make the connection between theory and practice,” summarizes Mr. Vrenegor.
Lebbing would like to thank the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences in Bocholt and Prof. Dr. Bühren for the invitation and the opportunity to give an insight into the practice of machine safety.
